GPS Pilot background

GPS Pilot .com story started back in Urbana-Champaign, IL in the summer 1997. Bertrand Simon, a Motorola-Bull SA Computer engineer and private pilot student, with his fellows students were dreaming of a mobile solution to ease the strenuous work of creating/updating flight plans.

Year 1997, the mobile technology was just arising with the launch of the first PalmPilot device and GPS technology was starting to become popular.

So, Bertrand designed the Fly application –called at this time Flying Pilot- running on these personal and easy-to-carry devices. With the help of Motorola hardware engineers, he connected for the first time a GPS device to a Palm™. The first two GPS Pilot applications Compass, a digital compass and, Fly, the dynamic pre-flight and in flight navigational system were born.

Year 1997 saw also the start of Internet democratization and e-commerce solutions. So he decided to share these new gizmos with other flight buddies. These 2 applications as well as a home-made Palm-GPS connector cable were distributed as sharewares through the world wide web.

1998-2000 The enthusiasm and users experiences of earlier GPS Pilot adopters and the maturation of the Palm O.S Platform lead us to create 2 new systems for recreational activities incorporating graphical map rendering. Atlas, a Digital atlas to plan and pinpoint trip and Tracker, a navigation system to track trips were shipped. GPS Pilot users are very satisfied with our products for its ease of use, worldwide dimension, affordability and no limitation by proprietary data formats.

1999, we were contacted by IBM and Heineken to develop a B to B solution : Heineken BarTrek Palm™ application, which offers to Heineken worldwide travelers and beer tasters, bars locations in major cities of the world.

January, 2000 GPS Pilot was incorporated and our start-up wish is to offer innovative and exciting solutions to hand held computers in the Mobile Information, Global Positioning System and Mapping technologies.

Year 2001-2002, the wireless area is on the air. And GPS Pilot now, offers mobile solutions to allow anyone, anywhere, at anytime to access navigational information.

Year 2003-2004, new European and Middle East partners are ringing at our door for new on-line maps support. Our commitment and hard work have also been rewarded by peers developers and users: GPS Pilot TripPilot application has been awarded at the Share Industry Conference as the Best Hobby or Personal Interest application and at the HandAnGo contest as one of the Best Use of Wireless applications for Palm OS®

Year 2005-2006, GPS Pilot teams up with a the swiss SwissGeo company to offer the best European PDA outdoor guide solution for treks lover.

Since 1997, our goal remains to provide mobile users with pertinent geographical content and navigation assistance to be exploited as a right-out-of-the-box experience on their handheld devices. We have acquired notoriety in our field of expertise, and in quality in our software and customers services.
